Job Description – Senior Software Engineer (Medical Imaging)
Company Overview:
InSight Surgical Technologies, Inc. (IST), is a late development phase, image guidance surgery (IGS) company developing autonomously updated imaging technology and quantitative fluorescence imaging (qFI) technology to augment the surgeon’s view of the evolving operative field and to enhance surgical treatment. The company will commercialize products that provide real-time, ML/AI-enhanced, intraoperative guidance via quantitative tissue fluorescence data and next generation, navigational-image updating systems to enable faster, less invasive, more accurate, personalized treatment of tumors and to improve the clinical outcomes of standard, robotic and remote surgical resections.
Position Overview:
IST is currently seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the design and development of unique medical imaging devices, from initial concept to commercialization, in collaboration with the world’s leading medical institutions. A successful applicant will be a self-motivated team-player creating and commercializing state-of-the-art surgical navigation and fluorescence guidance medical systems, including the definition, development, and testing of algorithms and workflows.
Responsibilities:
- Algorithm ideation, development, and implementation. Advances image processing and AI/ML theory and techniques to resolve engineering challenges. Drives theory/bench/clinical data to a commercially cleared medical product.
- Transforms customer and marketing requirements to design. Resolves competing constraints between interrelated functions (Engineering, Marketing, Risk Management, Regulatory Compliance, Quality, Clinical, and Human Factors). Follows company procedures to develop, test, and support software solutions for IST products.
- Provides technical solutions that reflect an understanding of business objectives and cost implications.
- Collaborates with team members, and clearly communicates with engineering management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s and 5+ years or master’s degree and 3+ years in engineering/software, preferably with medical device specialty.
- Expertise with software languages and tools including Python, C++, C, MATLAB
- Experience with medical imaging, or machine vision and digital image processing
- Experience with the application of AI/ML to product development
- Ability to translate, develop and debug computational and control software algorithms used in IST’s products in conjunction with lab bench and clinical data.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Experience with CUDA and parallel computing using GPUs.
- Familiarity with the application Python libraries to engineering solutions.
- Experience with professional software engineering best practices (IEC 62304) for the fullcsoftware development life cycle, including object-oriented development, coding standards,
code reviews, software validation testing, and source control management. - Experience with medical device development, Good Document / Manufacturing Practices,
including FDA-21 CFR 820.30 and ISO 9001.
